We have made a commitment to make our information and services available to everyone, regardless of disability or technology.
This is a requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The Act states “Australian Government agencies are required to ensure that information and services are provided in a non-discriminatory accessible manner”.
About our level of accessibility compliance
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Logan City Council conforms with WCAG 2.1 level AA.
Compliance overview
me2 Accessibility was commissioned by Logan City Council to conduct an accessibility audit on the Logan City Council corporate website. Our accessibility audit is in line with W3C Website Accessibility Conformance Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM) 1.0.
On the 19 November 2020, the website satisfied all Level A and AA Success Criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 specification.
Principles to support accessibility
o achieve accessibility, we have followed the following principles:
Accessible content:
- Wherever possible, we have tried to explain Council services and processes in clear language so it is easy to follow.
- Content is displayed in a way that makes it easy to read and scan.
- We have converted most non-accessible documents to page content, or created an accessible version of the PDF if possible.
- All pages have an icon near the top to the right for a program called ReadSpeaker. If you click on the icon, a voice will read out the page content.
- All pages have an icon near the top to the left for Google Translate to allow you to read the information in your natural language.
Accessible technology:
It is compatible with software and systems used by people with disabilities (known as assistive technologies), including:
- Screen readers
- Screen magnifiers
- Voice recognition
- Standard accessibility features in mobile devices.
Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts, there are some limitations. Sometimes larger documents - like the planning scheme, strategy documents and reports and archived documents – have scanned pages, graphs or images that cannot be converted to accessible text. We have tried to limit the number of these documents.
Some third-party systems that we link to from our website may have different levels of accessibility that are out of our control.
